First time homebuyer seminar

First Time Homebuyers Attend Educational Seminar Hosted by SFPCU

SFPCU members searching for their first homes gathered at SFPCU's Irving Branch on May 23, 2018 for our First Time Homebuyer Seminar.

Speakers Dave Loyst and Jim Fett (both of Stearns Lending, LLC) shared industry information about monitoring credit, selecting the right home loan product for different financial situations, and how recent tax legislation has affected homeownership. Additionally, they were able to answer several questions from attendees regarding the homebuying process from start to finish.

Kathy Chen (SVP of Lending, SFPCU) and Robyn Caladim (VP of Real Estate Lending, SFPCU) chimed in with some information about SFPCU's Real Estate Lending team. Members in attendance were pleasantly surprised to hear that SFPCU's Real Estate Loan Officers do not work on commission and are dedicated to recommending products that best fit a member's unique financial situation. Kathy also shared that, for now, SF Police Credit Union is offering below-market mortgage rates.

Bob Evans (Century 21) gave a presentation covering SFPCU's Realtor Referral Affinity Program, which earns qualifying members a buyer credit equal to 20% of the realtor commission on Bay Area real estate purchases. Once the presentation concluded, Real Estate Loan Officers Ellen Lee and Judy Chan (SFPCU) were available to speak to members one-on-one.

We look forward to bringing our members more educational events in the future, and we wish all of the members who attended our homebuyer seminar good luck as they search for their future homes!

1 The Century 21 Affinity Program is a national program in the United States serving SFPCU members regardless of the member's location. Only licensed Century 21 Brokers and Agents of the C21 serving office may participate in this program per the exclusive agreement between SFPCU and Century 21. However the 20% commission credit applies only to the real estate purchase made within the 9 Bay Area counties (Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma). For purchase outside the 9 Bay Area counties the commission credit percentage will vary and is determined by the local C21 broker.
