SFPCU at Law Enforcement Torch RunHave you been thinking about making a positive impact on your community through volunteer service but have yet to connect with the right opportunity? At SFPCU, we’re proud to be a contributor to essential causes in support of law enforcement and the communities they work so hard to protect. Here are just a few ways you can support charitable nonprofits and special events in partnership with local law enforcement. We think you’ll find them all deserving of your valuable time, resources and expertise:

Meet your neighbors at SFPD National Night Out, Tuesday, August 1, 2017: This evening filled with activities, food and fun is intended to promote neighborhood camaraderie and strengthen the relationship between police and communities to increase public safety. This year, representatives from SF Police Credit Union will take part in Taraval Police Station’s event at Playland, 1360 43rd Avenue from 5-8 p.m. Among the free festivities will be games, entertainment, face painting, arts and crafts, police/fire truck and more. We hope our members will join us in helping to make the event a continued success! For details, visit

Give back with SFPAL: For those of us who don’t already know, San Francisco Police Activities League (SFPAL) provides volunteer adult mentors and role models to local kids – serving nearly 5,000 youth annually through a variety of sports and leadership activities. It relies on more than 800 civilian and police volunteers each year to support kids on and off the field by serving as coaches, instructors and mentors. Volunteers are wanted in all SFPAL youth programs. Don’t see yourself acting as a coach, teacher or advisor? The organization also needs people to help out in their office. To learn more, visit

Support Special Olympics Northern California: Each year, the Northern California Law Enforcement Torch Run® (LETR) raises thousands of dollars to offer athletic opportunities to children and adults with disabilities, enhancing their lives and helping to instill the confidence they need to succeed. The campaign culminates at the Special Olympics Northern California Summer Games in June, but LETR fundraising events take place throughout the year. In fact, law enforcement holds 600 fundraisers for Special Olympics throughout Northern California each year, including the much-anticipated Polar Plunge®. Interested in getting involved? Visit

Make a donation: If you’re seeking a way to help local law enforcement families that have suffered a major loss, consider making a financial contribution to the Bay Area Law Enforcement Assistance Fund (BALEAF). Founded in 1999, this organization provides support to law enforcement families in the Bay Area and surrounding counties that have experienced a member killed in the line of duty, a loss of life, or a serious injury or illness. With the exception of contributions specifically directed to administrative expenses, 100 percent of all donations go toward assisting law enforcement members and their families.
