Sunday, June 21 is an important date for all the dads and father figures out there … it’s Father’s Day! This year's celebrations might look a little different with people hunkering down at home to help slow the spread of coronavirus, so you may be struggling to come up with appropriate ways to celebrate the day. Here are 10 ideas to help recognize the special people in your life this year.

  1. Personalized Gifts

Consider ordering a personalized Father's Day gift. Blankets, pillows, drinkware, and other home décor can all be personalized with photos, engravings, or monograms and are a great way make their recipient feel special. Tip: Be sure to check the delivery date on any personalized items you order. Customized items usually take a little longer than normal online orders.

2. Father’s Day Brunch/Dinner/BBQ

Plan a Father’s Day brunch, throw a pizza party at home, or fire up the backyard grill.

If you're not able to dine together, maybe you can surprise him with a porch drop-off of his favorite Father's Day brunch recipes or even surprise him with a mail-order meat delivery so he can grill up his favorite meal.

3. Enjoy the Sun

This year, Father’s Day happens to be just one day after the summer solstice, making it the first full day of the summer season and one of the longest days of the year to enjoy the extra sunlight! Take a scenic drive, walk, or bike ride if you are lucky enough to live in an area with mountains, lakes, or the beach.

4. Camp under the Stars

Camping is a great summertime activity. This year Father’s Day will be bathed in the darkness of a new Moon, which provides an excellent opportunity for stargazing. Be sure to plan carefully--different counties throughout California have varying rules and campsite availability this year due to coronavirus.

5. Make a Coupon Book

A coupon book is the gift that keeps on giving.  He’ll love the thought that went into making the book and coming up with ideas to spend time with him or help him with tasks around the house.

6. Put on a Talent Show

Have your kids put on a play or perform a Father’s Day song/dance. Viewers will be sure to melt at the cuteness!

7. Make a Photo Book

Gather some pictures of you with your family over the years and make a photo book of memories to treasure forever.

8. Watch Sports/Favorite Movie or TV Show

Who doesn’t love to relax on the couch in front of the TV? Give him some company while he’s watching basketball or re-runs of Seinfeld and he’ll remember it for years to come.

9. Breakfast in Bed

Breakfast in bed isn’t just for Mother’s Day. Dads enjoy it too! Spoil Dad with breakfast in bed. Surprise him with a specially prepared meal and start Father’s Day off right.

10. Gather Loved Ones on FaceTime/Zoom

During this time of uncertainty, being with loved ones (even virtually) is important. Privately message family, friends, and loved ones and surprise him with a Zoom meeting or FaceTime call.

We understand that some fathers or important family members may be on duty or called to work during holidays like these. Showing appreciation to the fathers in your life doesn’t have to happen on a specific date—and it doesn’t have to cost much, either. However you choose to celebrate Father’s Day, the most important thing is showing the important people in your life how much they’re loved!
